About this Event
The Safe Sidewalks Crew is a group of volunteers collecting information about the quality and accessibility of sidewalks across the City of Pittsburgh that will be used to help see where repairs and new sidewalks are most needed. Our goal is to collect information about sidewalks (or where they're missing) for every street in the City, and WE NEED YOUR HELP to make that happen. All you have to do is go for walks in the neighborhoods where you live and work, then tell us what you notice!
At this training you will learn what makes a sidewalk safe and accessible, and we'll show you how to use a simple web survey to share your observations about sidewalk quality.
This is a great way to explore new parts of the City while getting your steps in and contributing to making our streets safer and more enjoyable for everyone.
Can't make it this time? We'll be holding more trainings in the coming months! Sign up to learn more at www.pittsburghwalks.org/sidewalks
Additional Notes:
- If possible, this training will feature a short walk for a few blocks to practice what you learn. Please bring a mobile device with internet access and dress appropriately.
- There will be light snacks at this event.
- Accessibility: Most Safe Sidewalks Crew walks and sidewalk audits will include sections with sidewalks that have structural issues and obstructions, and are out of compliance with ADA. But, of course, this work couldn't exist without the insights of people with disabilities. When you register for a walk, feel free to let us know if you use a mobility device or have individual accessibility questions, and we will coordinate with you to find a feasible route and accessible meeting point.
This initiative is led by Pittsburgh Walks in collaboration with the Department of Mobility and Infrastructure, BikePGH, and Access Mob Pittsburgh.
