The Sadness Cabaret has its origins in the pandemic. To a reduced-capacity crowd starved of human connection, a small group of performers would dress up in low-budget costumes and perform absurd comedy every week. The hope was to ease both the audience's loneliness and theirs at the same time. Whether or not it achieved that aim is unknown. What is known is that The Sadness Cabaret inspired a group of comedians to start taking silliness more seriously. Many weird and wonderful acts emerged including: Billy and His Pet Dinosaur, Slash from Guns N Roses, bear hunter Ursula the Honey-Fist, space heroes Landor and Crob, Ian the Reluctant Cat, Eric the Boy Wizard, pokemon trainer Bash Get'um, Shane, and countless more.

Three years later, the Sadness Cabaret is THE showcase for alternative comedy in Barcelona. Accompanied by one-man house band Eric Ibanes (AKA Barko Woods), either Mila Kopaeva or Andy Casper present a variety of different comedy acts over the course of approximately an hour. You will see anything that is not improv or stand up comedy. Whilst that usually means people dressed in outlandish costumes being silly, it also includes: musical comedy, drag, mini game shows, and between 7 and 10 minutes of someone doing something on stage that has yet to be categorised.

Some people don't like us, that's ok, we're not for everyone. Around 1% of the people that come here, find something they don't like. Sometimes people complain about the lack of drink variety, or about the chaotic feel of the place. Other people find that the open mic comedy event they attended didn't meet the standards they are used to on Netflix.
