About Sacred Circles
Sacred sound circles include a mix of traditional Sanskrit mantras as well as chants and songs from other cultures and languages. All songs and chants are intended to encourage and nurture connection to each other and the natural world as we co-create a world that honors and supports all beings.
About your host
Rebecca Wohlever is a yoga instructor, ecotherapist, outdoor educator, and singer-songwriter. She leads programming for children and adults with a focus on healing, nature, and sacred sound. She connected with Kirtan in the early 2000s while deepening her yogic studies. As a musician and singer, she was immediately drawn to the vibrations and rhythms of this ancient practice and began to learn the mantras and develop accompanying guitar. She has led Kirtans throughout the greater Cleveland area for the last 22 years.
But what is Kirtan?!
Kirtan is a form of bhakti yoga(yoga of the heart) and sound yoga (nada yoga), which was developed and practiced along with the poses and breath-work that you might be more familiar with. Chanting works on our nervous system, immune system, and the subtle energetic systems of our bodies. Its healing effects have even been documented through research and medical studies. Chanting reduces our stress response, calms our nervous system, and decreases anxiety. Beyond that, it just makes you feel good by literally raising your vibration!
Kirtan is not religious, but it can support you on your spiritual path. The pronunciation and sounds of Sanskrit chants are like medicine for the body, mind, and soul!
