spirituality in contemporary artistic practice.
About this Event
Mundo Arte is pleased to present Sacred Instinct, a group exhibition featuring works by Jason Aponte, Ivonne Ferrer, Sonia Hidalgo, Kadja, Yusimy Larra, and Rocard Mo. On view from April 18 through May 9, the exhibition explores the complex relationship between instinct and spirituality in contemporary artistic practice.
The title of the exhibition reflects a fundamental question about the human condition: what distinguishes human instinct from animal impulse? While instinct connects us to our most primal nature, spirituality opens the possibility of reflection, awareness, and meaning.
In the space between these two forces, human identity begins to take shape. Through painting, sculpture, and mixed media, the artists in Sacred Instinct investigate this tension from diverse symbolic and emotional perspectives. Their works move between the visceral and the contemplative, revealing how desire, ritual, vulnerability, and imagination shape our understanding of what it means to be human.
The exhibition draws inspiration from an idea expressed by Fernando Fernández: “the man who does not integrate the spiritual into his instinct is simply an animal.” From this perspective, Sacred Instinct proposes that humanity lies not in the denial of instinct but in the capacity to transform it through consciousness, creativity, and spiritual awareness.
By bringing together distinct artistic languages, the exhibition invites viewers to reflect on the fragile balance between the sacred and the instinctual, between the body and the inner life that gives it meaning.
