Alt/rock singer/songwriter Ryan Sweezey’s latest album Maybe Magic is a testament to persistence in the face of the unexpected - pushing on with humor, grace, and hard-earned wisdom through life’s twists and turns. On a personal and musical journey that has seen him trade in the big city Boston bustle for the quiet of the Green Mountains, Sweezey has gained an appreciation for how the passage of time changes our perspectives on our past experiences. This ability to reflect and revisit is at the heart of this record - his sixth studio album - a collection of half-finished songs and ideas from the past decade which he decided to go back and complete. Of the final product, Hit Harmony Haven writes “Sweezey’s strength lies in his ability to make the personal sound communal.”
Tom Bianchi, talent buyer for 24HourMusic, calls Ryan “one of the most consistent and crushing performers I’ve ever come across...With million-dollar pop/rock songs all day long, killer voice, and rock solid guitar skills.” Vocally dynamic and palpably emotional, singer/songwriter Ryan brings his infectious and meaningful music to every stage he plays with an earnest sensitivity and expert execution. Chris Farnsworth of Seven Days states "Sweezey’s music is a callback to the mid-’90s folk-tinged pop and alternative rock of bands such as Deep Blue Something, Matchbox Twenty and Counting Crows…Sweezey has refined his songwriting…so significantly that his songs sound like they belong in the conversation with his obvious inspirations.”
With Sweezey’s powerful voice and passionate guitar at the forefront, his backing band The Midnight Walkers features an all-star lineup of Vermont musicians with Joshua Glass on keys, Chris Doncaster on bass, and Eric Belrose on drums. Music Evolution says “Ryan’s voice has that rare blend of honesty and warmth that instantly draws you in.”
Ryan has racked up recognition around New England both as a solo artist and with the band, being nominated for multiple New England Music Awards and Seven Daysies, as well as winning the 2019 Advance Music Singer/Songwriter Contest.
