About this Event

Join us for an evening with historian and author Dr. Yuri Felshtinsky as he talks about his book, From Red Terror to State Security: Russian Intelligence Services in the Struggle for World Domination (1917–2036), co-authored with former KGB Lieutenant Colonel Vladimir Popov.

The book traces the evolution of Russia’s powerful security apparatus—from the creation of the VChK in 1917 to its modern form under Vladimir Putin - revealing how the intelligence services gradually consolidated political control and reshaped the Russian state. Drawing on decades of archival research and insider insight, Felshtinsky and Popov illuminate the inner mechanisms of the KGB’s rise and the global implications of its rule.

Dr. Felshtinsky, internationally known for "Blowing Up Russia" (with Alexander Litvinenko) and "The Corporation: Russia and the KGB in the Age of President Putin", will discuss the historical roots of Russia’s current power structures and their enduring impact on the world today.

Hors d'oeuvres and refreshments will be provided.
RSVP is recommended, and donations welcomed.

Dr. Yuri Felshtinsky is a leading historian, author, and journalist specializing in Russia and the former Soviet Union. Educated in both Moscow and the United States, he received his Ph.D. in History from Rutgers University and became the first foreign citizen to defend a doctoral dissertation in Russia. His academic career includes research at the Hoover Institution at Stanford University and numerous publications on Soviet and post-Soviet politics.

Felshtinsky is best known for co-authoring Blowing Up Russia with Alexander Litvinenko, which exposed the FSB’s role in acts of state terrorism and was later banned in Russia. His other major works include The Corporation: Russia and the KGB in the Age of President Putin, The KGB Plays Chess, From Red Terror to State Security (with former KGB Lieutenant Colonel Vladimir Popov), and The Great Da Vinci Deal.

His writing and research trace the transformation of Russian intelligence services and their lasting influence on both domestic and international power structures.
