About this Event
The lecture will focus on the impact of economic sanctions on Russia, analyse how they have imposed significant costs on the country over the past two-and-a-half years, and highlight critical design and enforcement challenges that continue to hinder their effectiveness. Based on several case studies from their work, the speakers will illustrate how sanctions should be understood as a moving target that require constant adaptation as the adversary develops evasion strategies and seeks to minimize their detrimental effects. Furthermore, they will discuss how the enforcement of the Russia sanctions is encountering serious constraints as far as international law and existing regulatory frameworks are concerned—and how they could be overcome, including in the area of confiscation of Russian sovereign assets.
