The city of Rugao, located in the northeastern part of Jiangsu Province, China, is the birthplace of Rugao Rod Puppet Theatre, listed among the Province’s first items of intangible cultural heritage.
Designated as the official institution for preserving and transmitting this traditional art form, the Rugao Puppet Art Troupe have performed the world over and have earned numerous awards at international festivals, including the 21st International Puppet Festival and the 4th European Puppet Arts Festival.
Come experience their latest production, comprised of 11 short puppet skits, including adaptations of classic Chinese mythology such as The Monkey King, original animal fables like The Little Ostrich, and impressive traditional “face-changing” acts. Combining heritage techniques with creative storytelling, these performances offer a vivid, innovative, and uniquely captivating experience of Chinese puppetry.
