Welcome everyone to the “Rose Offering To our Beloved” Painting Workshop. Today we will hold space for ourselves and those around us as we call upon strong emotions in honor of our beloved, however those emotions come to be. Grief is non-linear, expands and contracts, and has potent energy that we can use to create beauty. If anger comes up, we can transmute that to love. If fear comes up, we can shift that to peace. The physical practice of creating this painting will ground us in the present, and the internal transmutation will connect us to trusting ourselves.Materials Provided: 8"x10" canvas (grid/sketched by teacher), acrylic paint, brushes, easels, and printed reference image of rose.
Please Bring: Photo reference of your beloved to use during meditation throughout the painting process.
This class is beginner friendly, and I will guide you through the stages of painting each layer (background, shadow base, midtones, highlights, and fine line detailing). I will go over the fundamentals of shadow/light, as we also reflect on our grief and the practice of doing something in honor of our beloved.

About Mariana
My name is Mariana Moreno-Gonzalez and I am a portrait artist specializing in memorial pet portraits. I found my passion for portrait painting when I was personally grieving the loss of my beloved pet companion, Lobo. At the time, it was very therapeutic for me to tend to his painting and process the pain of losing him so quickly. Not only did this process help me honor that special bond, but it also healed the pain I carried with art. I made a promise to myself to come to the painting with unconditional love and patience, which ultimately increased my trust in my intuition. I continue to paint in this state of flow, where I am transmuting the grief of loss into a celebration of how much love was felt and given. This reminds me how unconditionally I loved and was loved, which creates a safe space within myself to create without fear of failure. When it’s done out of love, that energy creates the masterpiece.
