About Best Woman
Julia Rosenberg is going to be the “best woman” at her brother’s wedding, which means she’ll have to leave behind her hard-won New York life (drag brunches included) for a week in Boca Raton, Florida. It’s no big deal; she just needs to survive her nit-picking divorced parents, her bridezilla sister-in-law, her hookup buddy that she can’t seem to quit, and her distant family commenting on her transition and coming out as a woman. She’s sure she can make it out unscathed... until she realizes the maid of honor is Kim Cameron, her devastatingly hot crush from high school, and she can’t help but tell a white lie to win Kim over—a lie that snowballs out of her control and risks her relationships with her brother, her mother, Kim, and even herself. As best woman, she's making the worst decisions of her life.
For fans of Dolly Alderton and Torrey Peters, Best Woman is a riotous coming-of-age novel and an utterly contemporary sendup of My Best Friend's Wedding that announces Dommu as an exciting new voice in fiction.
Advanced Praise for Best Woman
“A very queer and very charming story of love and family… Prolific journalist Dommu, in her debut, has crafted characters that feel real but not always likable, as in the best rom-coms. Best Woman is by turns laugh-out-loud funny and painfully relatable (no matter your gender expression or sexual preference), with engrossing prose and a fast-moving plot. Perfect for fans of Alexis Hall and TJ Alexander.” —Booklist (starred review ★)
“Best Woman absolutely sparkles with all the wit, charm, and drama of the best ‘90s rom-coms, and does it in pitch perfect prose. Who needs Julia Roberts when Rose Dommu has such star power?” —Torrey Peters, author of Stag Dance and Detransition, Baby
“What can I say? Sometimes you read a book that electrifies you just by existing and existing so well. Best Woman proves that a great romcom isn’t simply about fantasy—it’s about complex, messy, loveable people discovering light and connection in those shining, sweaty-on-the-dance-floor, stuck-at-dad’s-house, in-between moments of imperfect life. Irresistibly fresh, bright, funny, and bursting with singular voice, this is the kind of romance I’ve been waiting for, and we’re so lucky to finally have it.” —Casey McQuiston, author of The Pairing
“Queer Literary Florida is alive and well in Rose Dommu’s Best Woman, a deliciously clever and relentlessly hilarious firecracker of a debut. The book is smart, sexy, and endlessly entertaining. Dommu really shines here.” —Kristen Arnett, author of Stop Me If You’ve Heard This One
“Rose Dommu’s wickedly sharp wit and the romance genre is a match made in heaven. Irreverently funny and tear-jerkingly tender, Best Woman takes the wedding cake as my favorite debut of the year.” —JP Brammer, author of Hola Papi
