About this Event
The Manchester Shakespeare Garden in Platt Fields is one of the few remaining public gardens dedicated to the Bard of Avon, established in 1916 by the Shakespeare Tercentenary Committee and, over the past 3 years, rescued from obscurity by volunteers. Rosa Grindon, a remarkable woman, suffragist and avid botanist, was the inspiration behind the garden. The exhibition SHAKESPEARE AND MANCHESTER: A VICTORIAN POWERHOUSE at Manchester Central Library aimed to raise awareness of the benefits to mental and physical health conferred by the Shakespearean Garden and to secure the future of the garden for the benefit of the citizens of Manchester. It finishes on Saturday, 30 May: worth a visit.
