Rope Ladder Fiction: First Rung: An Evening Celebrating Fifteen New Voices

Rope Ladder Fiction, Flapjack Press and 53two are hosting an evening to celebrate the First Rung: The Killing of Demons and Darlings Edition which will be published on Monday 1st July.
The anthology is the culmination of a yearlong outreach programme for Rope Ladder Fiction in partnership with Paul Neads and Flapjack Press, hosted by 53two. This programme has enabled fifteen individuals to step forward and develop their writing practice and see their writing published.
Five pieces from the anthology have been selected to be performed in front of an invited audience, and 30 tickets are available to the public free of charge.
Performers include Waterloo Road’s Shauna Shim (Val Chambers) and Liam Scholes (Noel McManus) along with 53two’s very own Simon Naylor. Zoe Iqbal, Lynn Roden and Ada Eravarma, who will be performing her own piece included in the book, complete this exciting acting line up.
Due to the nature of some of the pieces being performed, we cannot host anyone aged 14 or under. The performance will be BSL interpreted.
The evening has been curated by playwright, screenwriter and poet Cathy Crabb with Rope Ladder Fiction’s Joseph Morris, and will be directed by Cherylee Houston. All audience members will receive a copy of the anthology, which includes exercises designed by Cathy, which were used to guide the writers through the programme.
This evening is aimed at those who value and want to celebrate new writing, and who might be inspired to pick up the pen themselves. The anthology First Rung marks an important component in building innovative outreach projects for Rope Ladder Fiction.
