About this Event
Intro to Music Theory
Intro to Music Theory invites students to learn music theory from a master teacher and discover the deeper “why” and “how” behind the music they love to play and hear. This course is designed to make music theory simple, practical, and easy to understand, breaking down the misconception that theory is confusing or intimidating. Through clear explanations and real musical examples, students will gain a stronger understanding of how music is built and why certain sounds, chords, and progressions work the way they do.
The course focuses on applying music theory directly to your instrument, helping students connect concepts like scales, chords, and harmony to real-world playing situations. While guitar players will find this course especially valuable, the material is relevant and accessible for musicians of all instruments and experience levels. By the end of the course, students will have a clearer grasp of how music functions, increased confidence in their musical choices, and a deeper foundation that supports growth as a musician, songwriter, or performer.
Classroom dates:
March 30th / April 6th / April 13th /April 20th
About the instructor
is a professional guitarist, published music-theory author, educator, and entrepreneur based in Colorado. He is the founder of the Will Metz Guitar Academy, where he helps dedicated guitarists—often busy professionals—develop deep musical understanding through a clear, structured, theory-driven approach to the fretboard and improvisation.
Will is the author of a published music-theory book focused on practical musicianship and real-world application, bridging the gap between abstract theory and how music actually feels and functions on the instrument. In addition to his private and online teaching, he has taught music at the university level, bringing academic rigor together with a highly pragmatic, player-first mindset.
Known for his ability to translate complex ideas into intuitive systems, Will emphasizes depth over shortcuts, musical intuition over rote memorization, and long-term growth over quick wins. Alongside his educational work, he is an active performing musician of the Colorado music scene.
At the core of his work is a commitment to building meaningful musical experiences—through teaching, performance, and community.
