About this Event
Songs of Our Ancestors is a culturally grounded collage art initiative organized by Salt City Advocacy Society to reconnect Black seniors with their heritage through creative expression.
In this guided art therapy program, seniors use collage to reflect on their journeys, ancestry, migration stories, faith, and resilience. By combining meaningful images, colours, and words, participants create visual narratives that honour their lived experiences.
Research shows that art-making supports cognitive engagement, reduces isolation, and improves overall well-being in older adults. Grounded in culture and community, Songs of Our Ancestors provides a safe and affirming space where elders feel seen, valued, and connected.
At its heart, the program celebrates memory, identity, and the wisdom of our seniors.
