About this Event
Join us this Black History Month for an empowering night at the Dugdale Arts Centre as Black Heritage Hub presents a special screening of Romeo n Juliet 4eva, a film by Paul Bucknor, the producer behind The Full Monty and Better Mus’ Come.
Set in the tough streets of Payneland, Jamaica, this fresh take on Shakespeare’s classic love story, delivered in local dialect by young first-time actors, aligns strongly with this year’s Black History Month theme: Reclaiming the Narrative.
The struggles faced by Romeo n Juliet 4Eva’s protagonist, Dean, reflect the realities many young people face today. The pressures of financial hardship and the influence of poverty-driven choices are universal for those growing up in deprived neighborhoods. This film speaks directly to individuals with these lived experiences, while offering hope through creativity, self-expression, and staying true to oneself.
After the screening, join Paul Bucknor and special guests, including Marva Rollins OBE, Education Consultant, Amani Simpson, filmmaker, and Arthur Barzey, UK's Headteacher of the Year, for an insightful panel discussion and Q&A.
Tickets start from just £5—don’t miss this chance to be inspired and see what’s possible when you dream big!
