About this Event
What is Create and Design?
The Royal Opera House National Create and Design Programme provides schools with FREE creative learning content written for and by teachers, bringing the world of ballet and theatrecraft into the classroom. Our curriculum-based schemes of work have been developed by teachers, for teachers, and provide links to the Ofsted framework.
This Create & Design (part 2) training session is for primary school educators across the country. Our training is led by a team of ROH practitioners and engages teachers in exploring our award-winning resources and approaches to designing in the classroom. The programme aligns closely with the National Curriculum KS1-3 for design and technology, and art and design.
Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, Create & Design (part 2)
Create & Design explores the process theatre designers use to take a ballet or opera from page to stage. It cultivates creativity and ‘design thinking’ in children, taking them through the research, exploration and development of original ideas to meet a design brief set by the Director of The Royal Ballet.
By attending this training, teachers are taken through a complete design process, with interactive activities, and learn how to enable their students to follow a design process from start to finish. They will understand how a stage set tells a story and come away feeling prepared to deliver a 5-week scheme of work in the classroom, working with our online resources.
The CPD session, with a professional designer, offers inspiration and activities for the classroom, and aims to build teacher confidence to deliver exciting practical design and technology, as well as cross curricula links to literacy and numeracy.
Teachers do not need any previous design technology, theatre craft, or ballet knowledge to take part, as they are supported throughout the programme and provided with easy-to-use lesson plans and introductory videos that are free to access via the ROH Learning Platform.
Create and Design's Covid-19 adaptations
For schools facing curriculum time pressures, we are recommending our Explorer (5-week lesson plan) schemes of work, with an emphasis on the quality and not quantity of creative work being produced.
Sign up FREE to the Royal Opera House Learning Platform, where you can access the full range of Create and Design resources.
CPD training
Please note this is a 2 part training course and attendees need to register for both parts separately on Eventbrite.
Our creative and interactive training sessions invite teachers to collaborate and explore the Create and Design programme together. There is an emphasis on play, discovery and participation and we therefore ask attendees to bring a "give it a go" attitude.
To ensure the required number of attendees we ask all teachers to sign up with a deputy who will step in for you, should you not be able to attend. Both you and your deputy may attend, just let us know if this is likely to be the case.
For those events that take place online, participants will be sent a document in advance of the training, detailing which digital platforms we will be using, how they can access them and how they will be used, in addition to an online safety guide.
If you have any online accessibility requirements please get in touch via [email protected]
