About this Event
Join London Heritage Quarter and enjoy the Magic of Walking as we celebrate National Walking Month and London Rivers Week, a week-long annual campaign inspiring the public to celebrate London's rivers.
London Heritage Quarter is committed to encouraging visitors, workers and residents to explore the area. We are partnering with Westminster City Guides to host a series of guided walks.
This is an eclectic and diverse walk along the riverbank of the Thames primarily through Victoria Embankment Gardens. We will encounter a famous Scottish poet, the man who revolutionised the Post Office, forgotten heroes from World War I, a Watergate not near water, campaigners for Women’s Rights, the nation’s first Black voter plus the man whose idea saved thousands of lives at sea.
The walk will take us through some of the nicest gardens in central London following the flow of the river. The expert guides provide unique local insights and bring the area’s history and character to life.
During and after the walks, we aim to gather feedback and ideas from participants on potential area enhancements, future activities, and ways to support healthier, more active, and sustainable travel.
2026 will be a landmark year for London Rivers Week,, a week-long annual campaign inspiring the public to celebrate all of London’s rivers and the many projects taking place to protect them, marking the festival’s 10th anniversary. The celebrations will highlight a decade of river restoration successes and showcase the achievements of the communities who have helped bring London’s waterways to life.
