FINE ROLLING MEDIA PRESENTS THE CINEMA PREMIERE OF "RIPTIDE"
FOR THE LAST FIVE YEARS, SINCE LEARNING OF MARK 'JOCK' JONES'S CANCER DIAGNOSIS, FINE ROLLING MEDIA HAVE FOLLOWED JOCK’S INSPIRING JOURNEY AS HE’S DISCOVERED WHAT IS IMPORTANT IN LIFE WHEN FACED WITH THE NEWS NONE OF US WANT TO HEAR.
In 2019, Welsh surfer Mark ‘Jock’ Jones was diagnosed with Myeloma—a rare form of blood cancer. Forced into isolation, away from his surfing obsession and his family, Jock began a virtual paddle around his home country of Wales, in order to raise money to tackle his disease. As Jock documented his progress online, his journey sent ripples of hope into a community suffering with their own issues and resulted in a wave of compassion that he rode towards remission and rediscovery.

After the huge success and rave reviews from the first community showing of Riptide, Fine Rolling Media have decided to take the film to the big screen. The Black Tie Event on November 30th will incorporate a Red Carpet Reception at Cornerstone, Cardiff, a Cinema Premiere at Cineworld, Cardiff and Xmas party back at Cornerstone till midnight.
The film follows Jock as he navigates living with Myeloma. We see how it affects his family, his mental health, and—most importantly, his obsession with surfing. Through a series of challenges, including a ‘virtual paddle’ around Wales and running the London Marathon while on aggressive chemotherapy, our story tracks the ups and downs of a unique individual battling to come to terms with what it means to live with cancer.
Kristian Kane, Director: “Jock was my PE teacher in school. As soon as I found out about his diagnosis and that he was using the experience to create some positivity in the world, I knew we had to document as much of the journey as possible. He’s an inspiration to everyone going through any kind of struggle. And proof that not giving up is its own reward.”
Lewis Carter, Director: “It’s been a privilege to spend the last five years documenting Jock’s journey. At various stages of production, we didn’t know where the story was gonna take us. But we knew we had to stick by Jock’s side and support him and the story would find us eventually. We can’t wait to see the film with people and find out what message they take from it.”
