Te Toi Uku – Crown Lynn & Clay Museum are excited to present a workshop led by Richard from Richard Naylor Ceramics. In this workshop, Richard will help you form two of your own special handmade bowls. Using traditional Japanese techniques—simple forms of pottery often thought of as sculptural, slow, and intentional ways of creating—you will produce beautiful, organic shapes that are individual to the maker.
Throughout the session, Richard will guide you to decorate your personal bowls with patterns and textures to make them uniquely yours. You will be offered a selection of different glazes to choose from. Your completed pieces will then be bisque fired, glazed, and fired again, ready for collection approximately four weeks after your workshop.
All materials are included, and no prior experience is required.
The artist: Richard Naylor has been making ceramics for over twenty years since training in Japan. He teaches at Auckland Studio Potters and is a professional potter who supplies a number of restaurants in Auckland and Paris. He works on the wheel and hand-builds a variety of domestic ware and sculptural ceramics, which are sold in galleries throughout New Zealand.
