Join Sacred Music Fellowship and Anatolian Arts Institute for our percussion masterclass series, where rhythm becomes a path to connection, community, and personal expression. This November, explore drumming as both an art form and a prayer. With a focus on technique, mechanics, and spiritual depth, this series is designed to elevate your skills while connecting you with others through rhythm.Led by master percussionists Yari Mander, Debbie Fier, and Faisal Zedan, each session offers hands-on learning and a unique perspective on the unifying power of rhythm across cultures and traditions.
Attendance at all 3 workshops is suggested, but you can sign up for each session individually. Each class is limited to 15 participants in order to create an intimate and focused learning environment.
Through this series, you will:
-Develop essential drumming techniques and elevate your rhythmic abilities
-Explore drumming as a form of prayer and deepen your spiritual connection
-Learn to apply drumming in community settings, supporting group energy and harmony
Class Dates and Teachers:
November 3 – Yari Mander: Yari is a seasoned music educator and professional drummer with over 25 years of experience, known for his patient and supportive teaching style. Certified in the Orff Schulwerk approach, he has performed with renowned artists and taught workshops worldwide and locally through his rhythm school Heart of Rhythm, using rhythm voice and body to foster connection and unity across diverse communities.
November 10 – Debbie Fier: Debbie is a multi-instrumentalist, vocalist, and educator with over 40 years of experience, known for her work in drumming, body percussion, and voice. She has performed internationally, composed four albums, and integrates practices like yoga and meditation into her teaching, fostering body-centered learning and helping individuals connect with their authentic voice.
November 17 – Faisal Zedan: Faisal, born in Beirut and raised in Syria, is a master of Arabic percussion with expertise in Derbekki, Dahullah, Riq, and Def. Based in the San Francisco Bay Area, he has built an international career as a performer, teacher, and collaborator, blending traditional Arabic rhythms with contemporary influences and performing across diverse Middle Eastern, Eastern European, and global musical traditions.
