Unravel the threads of resistance in (R)evolution Fashion, an immersive exploration of how women’s style becomes protest. Drawing from sartorial archives and material memory, (R)evolution Fashion revisits women’s attire as a site of gendered defiance. Visitors are invited to interrogate and co-create the contemporary afterlives of these parallel resistances.
The revolution component is explored through modes of archival and material history, revisiting the role of women in resistance movements across various spatio-temporal gradients. It foregrounds the embodied labour of women through style and aesthetic performances, revealing fashion as a site of protest, defiance and collective identity.
The evolution component is portrayed through the contemporary decontextualisation and reinterpretation of protest culture and style. By reimagining past forms within modern frameworks, it exposes the cyclical transformation of fashion; acts of resistance are continually reframed and reclaimed as expressions of renewed agency, defiance and shifting identity.
