About this Event
Return to Paueru Gai: 50 Years of Powell Street Festival
Curated by Emiko Morita
This retrospective exhibition features photographs, archival video, and immersive art installations that highlight the Powell Street Festival’s rich history of Japanese Canadian art and activism. Founded in 1977 to honour Japanese Canadian heritage and foster community connection, the festival takes place annually on the B.C. Day long weekend in the historic neighbourhood of Paueru Gai (Powell Street) in Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside. Bringing together traditional and contemporary music, dance, cultural practices, and interdisciplinary arts, the festival offers an inclusive and evolving space for Japanese Canadian expression. See you there!
