The Bach Ensemble at St.Thomas Presents Festive Easter Oratorio at St. Gertrude Catholic ChurchCINCINNATI, OHIO—This Easter season, the Bach Ensemble at St. Thomas (BEST) invites audiences to an evening of radiant Baroque music on Friday, April 17 at St. Gertrude Catholic Church. The program features two of Johann Sebastian Bach’s most celebratory works: the Easter Oratorio (1725) and Cantata BWV 34.
In contrast to the introspection of Bach’s Passions, his Easter compositions burst with energy and joy. The Easter Oratorio opens with one of Bach’s most exuberant orchestral movements and unfolds through vibrant arias and choruses that capture the wonder of the Resurrection.
The performance will feature BEST’s full orchestra and choir, highlighting the ensemble’s commitment to historically informed performance. Audiences will also hear BEST’s newly acquired Baroque timpani, period-style instruments that add brilliance and clarity to Bach’s festive scoring.
A pre-concert lecture by BEST’s resident scholar, Adam Shoaff, will begin at 7:00 p.m., offering insight into the music and its context. The concert follows, inviting listeners to extend the celebration of Easter through an evening of uplifting and joyful music.
The concert will be held at St. Thomas Episcopal Church, 100 Miami Avenue, Terrace Park, Ohio. Tickets are available at www.bachensemble.org. General admission is $30, with student tickets priced at $10.
