Abstract
This study examines how monetary policy shapes private borrowing costs, as reflected in corporate credit spreads across different maturities and credit ratings. It shows that tighter monetary policy widens credit spreads, particularly for short-term and lower-rated (riskier) debt, while longer-term spreads are comparatively less sensitive. The effects of policy shocks are persistent over time, indicating a sustained impact on corporate financing conditions. By linking monetary policy shocks to the term structure of credit spreads, the analysis highlights how policy transmission operates unevenly across maturities and risk classes, with stronger effects on firms facing greater credit risk.
