Experience Rutter's Gloria, Trotta's Requiem, and wonderful music by Stephen Lange, presented by the Renaissance Singers and Festival Singers of Wellington, conducted by Christine Archer-Lockwood and Ingrid Schoenfeld - with Jonathan Berkahn on organ. The John Rutter Gloria is one of the most performed sacred pieces of music written in the last century, and is jubilant in expressing devotion using the Latin text of the Gloria, a part of the Latin mass. The piece commands attention and readily carries the audience through the three quite different phases.
Trotta's Requiem is as the full requiem mass with all ten parts. Trotta reaches back to the dynamics of traditional choral sacred music - with a large choir and organ accompaniment, Trotta's Requiem will have considerable impact.
This concert provides a rare opportunity to hear contrasting sacred pieces that while modern, contain the traditional elements that will remind the audience of their connections to the great music of the past. The concert is also to be performed by the combined choirs Sunday May 17, 3.00 pm in Lower Hutt's St James Church.
