About this Event
Do you have a bike that needs a fix or just some care and attention? We'll guide you through the skills you'll need to get your bike out on the road, running smoothly and in tip-top condition.
We want to make cycling more accessible and affordable for all Portsmouth residents. Working with the team of experienced mechanics from Southsea Cycles, we aim to teach you the basics of cycle maintenance so that you can make simple repairs at home. These informal, hands-on workshops are suitable for adults of all ages and abilities.
During the workshops you'll learn a range of techniques, from fixing a puncture to aligning your wheels. At each session you'll discover what equipment you'll need to make repairs and how to use tools you may already have at home.
The flexible workshops will last for two hours and can be booked as a course of five sessions or mixed and matched as stand-alone units to fit with your schedule. Sessions are held on Wednesday mornings at St Michael's Church, Paulsgrove.
Please note that you will need to bring your own bike to the session with you.
Each session will cover a specific topic:
City cycling 101: Ride safe and keep your bike secure. Learn how to make emergency roadside repairs, fix a puncture, repair a broken chain and replace brake pads.
Cycle maintenance basics: Discover how to safely M-check (bike maintenance check) your bike, as well as maintaining your gears and brakes.
Fix up, ride sharp. This workshop will take you into a more detailed M-check, plus you'll learn about gear tuning and drivetrain repair.
Stopping power. Learn how to tune and repair cycle brakes and diagnose brake problems.
Straighten Up! Straighten your bike wheel for a smooth and safe ride.
