Dear Citizens of Sandy, City Officials, and Fellow Believers in Layers,
Once upon a time in the future, in a land not so far far away (Sandy, Utah), a recreation center will be complete. And like all great stories, it now faces a choice:
Remain bland…
—or embrace destiny.
We propose the official renaming of the new Sandy Rec Center to:
THE SANDY SHREKREATION CENTER
Why Shrek?
Because Shrek is love. Shrek is life.
And more importantly:
“Ogres are like onions. They have layers.”
Much like our community, our Wasatch foothills, and parfaits.
“This is the part where you run away.”
—what your body says during cardio.
“What are you doing in my swamp?”
—every Sandy resident when Tooele folks show up.
“Some of you may die, but that is a sacrifice I am willing to make.”
—the Zumba instructor, probably.
“That’ll do, Donkey. That’ll do.”
—the correct response after a solid workout.
The Sandy Shrekreation Center represents:
Strength
Community
Waffles
And the courage to say “no” to another gray building with no personality (unless it's made of boulders, that's a nice boulder)
Imagine the possibilities:
-Kids saying “Mom, I’m going to Shrek” and it being normal
-Fitness classes titled Ogre Yoga, Swamp Conditioning, Layers & Lunges, and Bells & Boulders
-A building name that sparks joy instead of mild indifference
This isn’t just a name.
It’s a statement.
A statement that Sandy is willing to laugh.
That recreation should be fun.
That life has layers.
That gyms don’t have to sound like insurance offices.
In the wise words of Donkey himself:
“You know what else everybody likes? Parfaits.”
And nobody hates parfaits.
Nobody hates Shrek.
And nobody will forget the Sandy Shrekreation Center.
Sign this petition if you believe:
Recreation should have layers
Sandy deserves personality
And the world needs more ogre representation in civic infrastructure
Let Sandy lead the way.
Let the swamp rise.
