About this Event
Description:
Before it became part of Wissahickon Valley Park, the grounds of the Wissahickon Environmental Center were home to the historic Andorra Nursery—once one of the most influential horticultural operations in the region.
Join us for a guided walk-and-talk exploring the legacy of Andorra Nursery and the people behind it, including William Harper and Eleanor Houston Smith. Learn how their work shaped the landscape of Wissahickon Park and influenced plantings throughout Northwest Philadelphia.
We’ll visit surviving features from the nursery era, including remnant structures, mature trees, and cultivated shrubs that still persist on the landscape today.
What to Expect:
- Guided interpretive walk led by knowledgeable staff
- Stories of local horticultural history and landscape design
- Exploration of historic plantings and site features
Distance & Difficulty:
