Reflected in Our Roots 3-Day Creative Writing & Open Mic Fundraiser

Join us for a virtual gathering of writers and artists from all backgrounds to reflect on our cultural roots and shared stories surrounding health & wealth. From Wed Apr 23 2025 to Fri Apr 25 2025, immerse yourself in a series of workshops, open mic sessions, and community discussions.

Creative writers high school age and up, are welcome to come share their stories, poems, and songs with a supportive audience, and help us raise funds for one of our own community storytellers, Ebony Atandare.

Ebony was a student of The Hamilton Essentials Foundation, Inc., “The Let’s Write Our Loud” Program and winner of the poetry slam competition the same year. She became an advocate for mental health through the arts and volunteered as a Safe Speech facilitator sharing the gift of writing as a prevention and early intervention therapeutic support group. 

Ebony is in the middle of her own mental health war battling Subacute Cutaneous Lupus Erythematosus (SCLE). She has been suffering through this condition for all of her adult life, and misdiagnosed.

This extremely rare form of lupus affects the body inside and out. She struggles with rashes covering her entire body while her immune system mistakenly attacks healthy skin cells causing environmental triggers from the sun exposure, certain medications, joint pain and other serious life threatening complications.
