About this Event

Sexual harassment and assault occur at alarming rates in the lives of K-12 students, both on and off campus. These incidents negatively impact students’ academic success, emotional well-being, and school communities. As a result, teachers and school staff are invested in reducing these occurrences and providing students with resources that support their overall welfare.

This session will highlight the work of Stop Sexual Assault in Schools nonprofit with a specific focus on creating local SASH Clubs (Students Against Sexual Harassment) to combat the impact of sexual harassment and assault. During the session, participants will gain experience navigating the innovative SASH Club website and learn about the tools and resources available. Additionally, participants will be able to envision the steps needed to establish a SASH Club in their communities. SASH Clubs can be used to mitigate the negative impacts of harassment while promoting the positive learning environment that educators value. SASH Club’s peer- educator model affords many benefits in addressing harms within the school community and creating safe environments for students to learn and grow. Through this approach, students are provided a constructive outlet for their voice while developing leadership skills needed to create and maintain a positive community. At the conclusion of the session, participants will also know about Stop Sexual Assault in Schools resources and how to introduce a SASH Club in their schools and communities. Participants will be able to empower students with the tools and skills needed to stay safe, improve the school climate, and promote positive culture change.
