Course accreditation
Dee is a certified teacher of the Mindfulness Now 8–week programme , which is accredited by the British Psychological Society. The Mindfulness Now curriculum includes key elements of MBSR (Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction) and MBCT (Mindfulness based Cognitive Therapy) both of which have a wealth of scientific evidence proving their effectiveness in helping people alleviate stress, anxiety, negative thought patterns and depression. MBCT is recommended by the UK Government body, NICE (National Institute for Heath and Care Excellence).
Why 8 weeks?
There are many ways to learn mindfulness, but there is a widely available wealth of scientifically proven evidence that shows that structured 8-week programmes are extremely effective in providing and sustaining long term benefits.
An 8-week format provides you with the fundamental framework to building a regular mindfulness practice. Regular practice over an 8 week period has been scientifically proven to build new neural pathways supporting the development and maintenance of new habits and patterns in the ways we think, feel and behave in our over-stimulating worlds.
You may also find being part of a group to be a valuable source of insight, support and accountability.
What does the course involve?
Over the 8 weeks you will learn the fundamental principles of mindfulness.
Each week, you will be led through mindfulness meditations, have the opportunity to participate in group discussions and learn techniques that will help you develop your own personal practice beyond our time together.
You will build library of meditations and a tool kit of skills to use in daily life that support you mentally, physically and emotionally.
The key learning points include:
- Formal mindfulness meditation practices which involve the breath & body as a focus
- Informal mindfulness practices which can be applied at any moment in our daily lives
- How to cultivate present moment awareness
- How to recognise mind wandering & develop focus
- Understanding the physiology of stress & how our responses may be down to evolution
- Recognising our patterns of reactivity & how to respond skilfully not automatically
- Recognising & managing negative thought patterns that can lead to stress and anxiety
