Read & Run on the Road: Book Club Run of Best Offer Wins

While the ominous (but pink…) drips sliding down the inside cover may look alarming, at an event I attended, Marisa Kashino described Best Offer Wins as a psychological unraveling, satirical, and truly absurd. There are definitely some cringy but laugh-out-loud moments as Margot navigates the DC-area housing market. For anyone who has or is looking to buy a home—but even as a perpetual renter I could relate!—this book is for you.

Though Margot longs for the perfect house in ficticious Grovemont (Bethesda), on this 4.3 mile, easy-paced run, we’ll run through Shaw and other DC neighborhoods where she lives, works, and agonizes over the house hunt.

Afterward, we’ll meet author Marisa Kashino at Solid State Books to chat about her book. Copies will be available for purchase and signing.

PREPARE: As this event is a book club run, it focuses on the plot, characters, and story. Attendees are strongly encouraged to read the book ahead of time to have the best experience. There is runner participation in the stops and opportunities for discussion, thoughts, and questions—similar to a traditional book club.

INCLEMENT WEATHER PLAN: If weather creates unsafe conditions, we will hold the discussion at Solid State Books (14th Street location) at 10:30 a.m. I will inform you no later than Sunday, June 14 by 6 a.m. if an alternate event will take place.

Info: Meet at Jane Jane 1705 14th St NW, Washington, DC 20009 between 5:45–6:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 14. The program will begin promptly at 9:00 a.m.

Info: We’ll run an easy-paced (~11:00 minute/mile), 4.3-mile route with several stops in DC's Shaw neighborhood and beyond.

Info: After the route, we’ll finish at the Solid State Books at 1809 14th St NW, Washington, DC 20009 (on the same black as our starting location) 10:30–11:00 a.m. to discuss the book.
