BUILDING BRIGHTER FUTURES: TEACHING KIDS ABOUT FINANCIAL LITERACY
Have you started talking to your kids about money yet? Teaching your kids about money involves having honest conversations. Financial Literacy is the possession of skilled, knowledge, and behaviors that allow an individual to make informed decisions regarding money.
Join us for a family-friendly event at Read Across Madisonville 2025, hosted by John P. Parker Elementary School, Rising Stars of America, Madisonville Education and Assistant Center and Kennedy Heights Arts Center. This exciting event will take place on Friday, April 25, 2025, at 6:00 P.M. at Cincinnati Sports Club, 3950 Red Bank Road, Cincinnati, OH 45227.
April is National Financial Literacy Month (also known as Financial Capability Month), which emphasizes the importance of financial literacy education and preparing a secure financial future. Financial education is more than dollars and cents. It is about establishing better spending habits, instilling confidence, and equipping the next generation with the real-world skills to manage financial goals and milestones.
One Challenge, Many Effects - Financial Illiteracy causes broken homes, school dropouts, dependency on predatory lending (payday loans) and government benefits, health issues (stress, depression, anxiety), bankruptcies, foreclosures, divorces, homelessness, deficiency in economic development, and even M**der-suicide in some extreme cases. Due to lack of adequate financial skills, majority of youth follow the same patterns as their parents with no or little chance of breaking the cycle.
Our goal is to inform and empower students about earning, saving, and spending money wisely. Teaching kids about money is crucial, but it does not have to be boring. Today, there are more fun and engaging financial literacy activities for kids than ever before. From classic board games to interactive online challenges. Playing these games as a family encourages open discussions about money management and helps children understand the consequences of their financial choices.
