South Asia Institute and Gandharva Mahavidyalaya North America are proud to present; Ravi Chary, sitar; A distinguished sitar player from Goa, India, known for his mastery in both Indian classical and fusion music. He began his musical journey under the tutelage of his father, the late Pt. Prabhakar Chary, a noted tabla player and musicologist. Ravi further honed his sitar skills under Prof. Abdul Karim Khan in Goa and later under sitarists, Ustad Abdul Halim Jaffer Khan and Ustad Shahid Parvez Khan in Mumbai. Ravi has performed all around the world and his playing style seamlessly blends traditional raga interpretations with contemporary elements, showcasing his versatility and innovative approach. Ravi's performances are marked by intricate rhythmic patterns and soulful improvisations, which have been captivating audiences worldwide. Amit Kavthekar, tabla; A groundbreaking Indian tabla player, renowned as the last ganda-bandhan (ordained disciple) of the legendary Ustad Alla Rakha and prominent disciple of the late Ustad Zakir Hussain. Rooted in the Punjab gharana, his playing style seamlessly blends traditional rhythms with contemporary nuances, reflecting a sensitive and dynamic approach. Amit has collaborated with eminent musicians across various genres including Amjad Ali Khan, Al DiMeola, and Shahid Parvez to name just a few. Amit serves as a faculty member with New England School of Music where he shares his profound knowledge of tabla to the next generation of percussionists.
