One of the world’s foremost exponents of the French horn, Jim Rattigan’s accomplishments would fill pages, just as his music fills the air with the sheer joy of creativity.
Graduating from Trinity College of music and the Royal Academy, he worked with major London symphony orchestras, chamber orchestras and small ensembles. He joined the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra for six years: yet continued his exploration of other musical forms becoming one of a select number of French horn players to play jazz. His unique accomplishment in creating a voice on the instrument sets him among the top rank of international artists, performing with Michael Brecker, Charlie Haden/Carla Bley, McCoy Tyner Big Band, Django Bates’ Delightful Precipice, Creative Jazz Orchestra (Kenny Wheeler), and Brad Mehldau with the Britten Sinfonia, Guy Barker Big Band and Simon Purcell Octet while simultaneously answering calls to record on major Hollywood soundtracks and releasing albums by his own ensembles.
This is an exciting collaboration with long-time UK associates Percy Pursglove and Phil Donkin who now reside in Germany. Completing the Quintet is Irish guitarist Simon Jermyn and German drummer Moritz Baumgärtner. The quintet will play original music mostly from Jim Rattigan but with contributions from all.
