Please join the Nonhuman Rights Project and Colorado animal rights advocates as we rally for the freedom of the elephants held captive at the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo and call for their release to an accredited sanctuary ahead of the Colorado Supreme Court’s hearing of their case.
The rally will be held in Lincoln Veterans Memorial Park, across from the Colorado Supreme Court, to raise awareness in the community about the plight of Jambo, Kimba, LouLou, Lucky, and Missy and the need to recognize their right to liberty.

🐘WHY JOIN:
Jambo, Lucky, LouLou, Missy, and Kimba are beings who need and want to live freely, and they’ve been stripped of all control over their lives. These elephants are regularly seen engaging in stereotypic behavior such as swaying and head-bobbing. This isn’t normal behavior for an elephant. It’s caused by chronic stress and trauma, as elephant experts make clear.
The NhRP is calling for the elephants to be released to an accredited sanctuary. This rally is taking place ahead of a historic Oct. 24th hearing in which Colorado's highest court will hear arguments in support of elephants' right to liberty for the first time. This case is the first of its kind in Colorado!
🪧THE RALLY:
During the rally NhRP Director of Government Relations and Campaigns Courtney Fern will talk about the NhRP’s litigation to free the elephants and how advocates can support the campaign to free Jambo, Kimba, LouLou, Lucky, and Missy to an accredited sanctuary and end the practice of imprisoning elephants in zoos (more guest speakers may be announced as the event nears).
We’ll provide signs for attendees but feel free to bring your own! It may be cold, so dress in warm and comfortable clothing. We’ll provide water but please bring your own if possible to ensure you’re adequately hydrated. This will be a peaceful and respectful demonstration where we band together to advocate to end the imprisonment of elephants in zoos.
