Raku pottery is a Japanese low-fired ceramic technique, traditionally used for tea bowls. Known for its dramatic, unpredictable, and unique finishes achieved by pulling glowing-hot pieces from the kiln and rapidly cooling them in combustible materials like sawdust or newspaper, creating metallic sheens, crackled glazes (crazing), and blackened unglazed areas.
In this 2-day workshop students will select two premade pottery pieces to finish. Students will receive instruction on the process of making raku pottery, prepare, and glaze their selected pottery pieces on Day 1. On Day 2, pieces will go through the firing process and students may take home their pieces once they have cooled.
Be prepared, with raku firing a huge amount of smoke is created.
