Our next walk is on Saturday April 25th 2026 in Sutton Park.We meet at the entrance to Sutton Coldfield railway station to begin the walk at 11.00 am.
This is a gentle 5.5 mile ramble exploring the town's royal park, a site of Special Scientific Interest and National Nature Reserve. Our walk takes in four of the park's pools, as well as Rowton's Well, which is fed by a spring, reputed to have healing properties and once used at Birmingham Eye Hospital!
During the walk there will be a break for lunch, which we will enjoy at one of the pools, so please bring food if you wish to eat.
Our last stop is at the Visitor Centre, which has toilets and plenty of information about the history of the park and its wildlife. At the end, you can return directly to the station, or join us for a drink at a nearby pub.
The walk is fairly even and mostly paved, but some of the paths can be a little muddy, so suitable walking footwear is recommended. As this is a green walk, dogs are welcome.
For those coming by public transport from central Birmingham there are three trains an hour from New Street station, the journey taking approximately 20 minutes. There are also buses.
For those coming by car please be aware that the station car park is for rail passengers only. However there are side streets nearby where parking is free. The nearest being in and around Garrard Gardens. The nearest public car park is in the Gracechurch Shopping Centre and the cost is £2.80 for four hours. Both these options are a short walk from the station. The postcode for the station is B73 6AQ.
We hope you will be able to join us on this scenic walk in a large expanse of parkland , but still close to Birmingham city centre.
