Rainbow Film Club - The Lost Boys

Sink your teeth into a cult classic this October with The Lost Boys, Joel Schumacher’s stylish 1987 vampire flick that’s as campy as it is creepy. Beneath the leather jackets, foggy boardwalks, and killer soundtrack lies a rich vein of queer subtext—perfect for a night of film and conversation with the Rainbow Film Club.
Whether you're drawn to the film’s glam-goth aesthetic, its themes of chosen family and outsider identity, or just want to revel in some delightfully over-the-top vampire drama, The Lost Boys offers a thrilling and thought-provoking way to spend an evening. And yes—we will be talking about that iconic, shirtless sax solo. Come for the fangs, stay for the queer-coded vibes. This film is peak 80s cinema. It even has both of the Coreys!
Get your tickets on The Princess website.
Rainbow Film Club normally runs on the first Monday of each month at The Princess Original at 7:00 p.m. The films usually feature a brief introduction by a local expert or film enthusiast who will provide some background and context for the films. Please note that The Princess Original cinema is only accessible via stairs.
You do not need to RSVP to attend the movie, but if you do, we will have people waiting out front of the theatre about 25 minutes before screening if you want people to sit with. This should give people time to grab concessions and find seats! We have set the RSVP time at 5:00 pm, the day of the show, so we can finalize the list of who to look for.
Content Warning:
Coordinators of the Rainbow Film Club may not have screened films in advance and may be viewing the films for the first time along with the audience. Selection of films for screening should not be interpreted as condoning the content of the film. While a film may be on a "classic queer film" list for being notable at the time it was released, this does not mean that the film has "aged well". Many films may contain outdated and problematic language or themes that be disturbing to some audience members.
If you are considering attending a Rainbow Film Club screening, please review the film rating and year of release to help assess your level of comfort in attending. All films are expected to be old enough that online reviews and plot synopsizes should be available. Given prevailing societal views at their time of release, even "progressive" films may unfortunately conflate or depict queer themes alongside scenes or themes including (but not limited to) sexual assault, violence, child abuse/pedophilia, self-harm and suicide, body hatred, pornographic content, mental illness, racism and racial slurs, sexism and misogyny, classism, hateful language, transphobia and trans misogyny, and homophobia and heterosexism.
We encourage those considering attending film screenings to conduct their own independent research into the film to inform their decision whether to attend.
This event is organized by: Rainbow Coalition of Waterloo Region, SPECTRUM, and Gays and Theys.
