A fun family day at the National Museum of Scotland for LGBTQ+ families in Edinburgh.
Enjoy a fun day out with other LGBTQ+ families and their kids as we co-host a take-over of the Learning Centre at the National Museum of Scotland.
Meet pals and make new connections as our friends at the museum facilitate a range of activities for different age groups and a community lunch.
Further details of the event programme to be updated nearer the event.
Event programme

-12:00 - 13:00: Community lunch for all ages - bring your own picnic, hot and cold drinks provided (no alcohol permitted)
-13:00 - 15:00: Activities – for all ages including older kids aged 8+

Community lunch (bring your own picnic)
There will be space for us to have a picnic together, so please bring your family’s lunch food with you. We will provide some fruit and biscuits as well as hot and cold refreshments. We ask that you do not bring any nuts as there are staff working with us at the museum who have a severe nut allergy. Thank you!

Who we welcome
Any LGBTQ+ families with children (where any of the family identify as LGBTQ+), living in or travelling to Edinburgh are welcome to join us.
We welcome the entire diversity of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) community including non-binary, queer, intersex, asexual people and all identities under the LGBTQIA+ umbrella.
We are particularly mindful of creating a welcoming space for LGBTQ+ families whose identities are less visible, less affirmed and represented in wider society, including bi+, trans, nonbinary parents.

Visiting with children
Families and children of all ages are welcome at the National Museum of Scotland. Please see our Family Hub page for lots more information to help you enjoy your visit.
Trained first aiders are always on duty and a policy is in place if children become separated from their party.
Baby changing facilities are available and our galleries are accessible via lifts and ramps. We recommend entering via the Tower entrance if using buggies or wheelchairs, as the lifts up from the Chambers Street entrance can be busy.
You are welcome to breast/chestfeed anywhere in the museum. There is seating on every level – please do ask our staff to show you the nearest comfortable seating or to point you in the direction of quieter spaces if you would prefer more privacy.
The Balcony Café (Level 3) is open daily from 10:00–17:00 for home baking, snacks and freshly prepared soup, sandwiches, salads and children's lunch boxes. Card payment is the preferred method of payment. Last orders are at 16:30. High chairs are available at both the Balcony Café and Museum Kitchen.
Buggies need to be kept with families at all times .
