About this Event

In present day yogic spaces, especially in the Western world, we are told to live with “love and light” However when asked to do this when your heart and mind are on fire, can feel like suppression only further fueling and bottling up what needs a safe place to be released and put out. This 90 minute immersion is a dedicated container to stop performing just one facet of the practice. Yoga is inherently political. Ahimsa, non-harming, and radical honesty are just as much part of our practice. But how can we do love and light AND radical honesty? This is yoga.

Through a fusion of dynamic movement, somatic shaking, and targeted breath and sound, we will invite our anger, rage, frustration and grief out of the shadows. Instead of stifling or letting emotions deplete us, we will embody and learn to channel their immense power as catalyst for transformation for ourselves and our community.

What to expect:

Ignition: We will begin with a timed moment to vocalize or write down things that are firing us up. Witnessing and participating in this IS inherently vulnerable, so we will establish safety with one another.

Expression: With loud metal music and songs of protest, we will move through a 70 minute high intensity, full body yoga sequence. Expect cathartic movement, rhythmic stomping, wiggling and breathwork to ignite fire in this release.

Alchemy: Once the stagnation has begun to subside, our bodies are both energized and tired, we will begin to move more fluidly. Smoothing edges, soothing movements, dancing through energetic space in our sequence, we begin to process.

Reset: We conclude our practice with restorative shapes, cooling pranayama, a brief moment to journal - allowing us to move from high alert into a state of profound safety and quiet.

Why join us?

When we honor our rage, anger and grief - especially in community, we reclaim our vitality and community. By being deeply witnessed by those experiencing their own, we leave anchored in a newly regulated nervous system,  amongst others who also are deep in the work. This is called co-regulation, we will be creating our own tribe. We provide evidence to our brains that we are still part of a tribe even if we are messy, sad, angry or loud, hopefully dismantling the shame response rooted in our capitalist society. Doing this work ourselves, we give others permission to do the same.
