Ragamenco is a collaboration of Spanish and Indian musicians living in the Bay Area. The music weaves together ancient musical traditions carried across continents by centuries of human and cultural migration. The band explores a new sonic landscape combining haunting Indian melodies with exciting folk, Flamenco, and jazz traditions from Spain. Come hear ancient music from the Old World finding a new voice in California.
About the Artists
• Javier and Luis Jiménez – Founders of Barrio Manouche, the acclaimed acoustic global music septet celebrated for a uniquely syncretic sound drawing from Spain, France, Brazil, and far beyond.
• Chris Bastian – A versatile bassist fluent in classical, blues, and Flamenco traditions.
• Satish Pillai – An eclectic pianist whose influences span rock, jazz, and Indian classical music.
• Mallar Bhattacharya – A sarode player of the Maihar school of North Indian classical music.
• Nilan Chaudhuri – A master of tabla, trained in the Lucknow gharana of North India.
• Devi SenGupta – A classically trained vocalist who performs devotional songs in the medieval languages of North India.
