Part 1: Learn & Chat
- A friendly presentation and open discussion covering everything you need to know as marathon day approaches, including:
- Training smarts: training plans, session types, heart rate, recovery weeks, time on feet, and tapering
- Conditioning & recovery: why strength & conditioning matters, cross-training ideas, listening to your body, and recovery tips
- Gear & gadgets: what’s worth using, what’s not, and how to choose the right kit
- Nutrition & hydration: during training, pre-race, and (crucially) on race day
- Race-day tips: what to expect, how to stay calm, and how to enjoy the experience from start to finish
Part 2: Easy Social 5K
We’ll then head out together for a relaxed, chatty 5K loop around St James’s Park—perfect for shaking the legs out and putting theory into practice.
Refuel & Q&A
We’ll wrap things up with refreshments and plenty of time for any final questions.
Stephen Campbell
Stephen is the lead coaching coordinator for Mornington Chasers, where he's best known for the Thursday track sessions, whether he’s coaching the session itself or pacing a group around the track. He’s a big believer in the benefits of heart-rate training, threshold running, and strength & conditioning. He loves his yoga and describes his running as ‘moving meditation’.
Inspired by the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics, Stephen joined his local running club the next day, and has loved all things running ever since.
He ran a 1hr 21 Half Marathon in his 20s, and then 3 consecutive London Marathons, but it was only in his 40s that he took 30 minutes off his PB, running a 3hr 05 marathon time. Now 57, his time at his fifth Florence Marathon qualified him for both the 2027 Boston & Chicago Marathons. He has competed in 3 of Run and Become's Sri Chinmoy Self-Transcendence 24-Hour Track Races, and ran the South Coast Challenge 57k in September.
Enjoying your training and the journey (whatever your training goal) is the most important thing, as well as building your training load progressively, setting yourself realistic goals, being consistent and finding like-minded souls to train with!
