Martin Guidry will present Strewn Across the Seas: The Acadian Deportations, 1755 – 1763, Marty Guidry will explore the history of Acadians from their origins in Europe, to their settlement in present-day Nova Scotia (then known as Acadia), to their eventual deportation by the British. He will discuss the major forces that led to the deportations and the impact these forces had on the Acadian communities in the years just before 1755. Marty will also describe the eight-year-long deportation process and the legal and political reasons that resulted in the scattering of the Acadians to numerous ports on both sides of the Atlantic. The presentation will include a discussion of the resettling of the Acadian communities after 1763 and the recapturing of their national identity.
