THIS WEEK'S THEME - "HOME"
Home can mean so many things -- It can be a literal place: your childhood home, a home you built, an apartment you found and, over years of work, made into your own. It can be a bit more figurative: the arms of someone you love, the first time you got onstage and knew this is what you were meant to do, the coffee shop you found your community in. It can hold a great deal of happiness and joy, but can also hold pain and sadness. Whatever it may be, it is something we all seek to find and build into a place we can depend on, find comfort, and feel completely ourselves in. There truly is no place like it.
OPEN MIC GUIDELINES
Storytellers can submit their interest to perform via our interest form or in a bucket we will have set up before the show.
Then, right before the show, 6 - 7 Storytellers will be drawn at random to share an autobiographical story ranging from 5 - 7 minutes (3 pages double spaced) in accordance with the theme for the evening. Storytellers will be timed. At the 6 minute mark, our timekeeper will raise their hand to let you know your time is almost up. Then at 7 minutes, you will be cut off. These guidelines are in place in the interest of fairness for all participants and to keep the show moving.
ABOUT THE SERIES
Queer To Tell is a NYC born national storytelling series that features LGBTQIA+ storytellers, is hosted by a local drag/queer performance artist, and takes place at Queer-owned/affirming spaces across the country. The series takes place in non-traditional performance spaces to create a space that feels like an intimate gathering audiences are happening upon rather than a theatrical performance. Each show has a different theme that allows for storytellers to share the universal experiences we as a community share but also the nuances of our different identities. This series was established to document the myriad of stories that exist within the LGBTQIA+ community, facilitate and encourage community building, and claim space in places that are actively celebrating and protecting us.
