About this Event
QTBIPOC Reading Soirée is back! Grab your book and meet us at the New Parkway Theatre in Oakland on Saturday, March 22, 2025. Join us as we kick off our second year of reading and building community!
📖🔥 Welcome to the Reading Apocalypse—But Make It Queer! 🌈💀
In a world where dystopian horror feels less like fiction and more like a breaking news alert, we invite you to escape (or lean in) with us at our first QTBIPOC Reading Soirée—a reading club for the end times.
This time, we’re diving into dystopian horror, the genre that prepares us for the worst while giving us the perfect excuse to escape while in great company and whisper, “same.” Expect eerie parallels, existential dread, and—most importantly—a safe, affirming space to gather, read, and build community.
📍 Where: The New Parkway Theatre ( Mezzanine, 2nd Floor), 474 24th St, Oakland, CA 94612
📅 When: Saturday, March 22, 2025 @ 2 PM
📚 What to Bring: Your favorite dystopian horror read by BIPOC authors (here are some recs!)
📖 Not feeling the theme? Just bring a book!
✨ Come for the books, stay for the community. We promise, no jump scares—just good bookish vibes!
What to expect?
2:00 Arrive, Settle In & Casual Introductions
2:15 Silent Reading
2:55 Break for connection
3:10 Silent Reading

Is this a Book Club?
Not exactly. We're about the joy of reading, whether you're on the first page or the last few pages. This is an opportunity to read in the community without the pressure of a traditional book club. Socializing is encouraged but not required! Just bring a book!
