Join us for placement of Pvt. John Duvall’s headstone, marking the completion of the project to mark 170 previously unmarked Union veterans. The ceremony will be performed by Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War with music provided by the 73rd Ohio Volunteer Infantry Regime Band. Light lunch refreshments will follow. This is a free event and no RSVP is required.
Ceremony starts at 10:45am. Follow the red arrow signs to Section 53 of Green Lawn Cemetery.
Private John Duvall was born in Belmont County, Ohio, on March 16, 1846. At age 15 ½ he enlisted in Company D, 22nd Ohio Volunteer Infantry in October of 1861. Before his 18th birthday he fought in all the major engagements in the western theater of the Civil War including Forts Henry and Donelson, Shiloh, 1st Corinth, Iuka, 2nd Corinth, Vicksburg, and Little Rock. He mustered out at Camp Dennison in November of 1864 at age 18. When he died in November 1901 at 55 years of age, he was living in Columbus and employed as a steel worker.
