Overview

Join us for a guided tour of the Military Women’s Memorial, led by one of our knowledgeable MWM docents, and experience the powerful, often untold stories of women who have served our Nation.

The Military Women’s Memorial is the only national memorial and historical repository dedicated to documenting the stories of all women who serve in, or with, the U.S. Armed Forces. Located at the heart of Arlington National Cemetery, our education center is where these stories are preserved, shared, and honored.

This special guided tour traces women’s service from the American Revolution to today. Although women were not officially allowed to serve in direct combat until 2016, they have always served close to the front lines—risking capture, injury, and even giving their lives in service to their country. As you move through the exhibits, you’ll explore the many ways women served, with or without permission, and how trailblazing women repeatedly proved their capability when given the opportunity.

The tour also provides a closer look at the Memorial’s exhibits, artifacts, and personal stories, as well as the history of the building itself—how it connects to Arlington National Cemetery and how the Military Women’s Memorial came to be located here. Led by a member of the collections staff, attendees will also learn about the wide variety of materials held by the Memorial, the unique stories they tell, and how these resources can be used by researchers.

Whether you are visiting for the first time or returning to learn more, this guided tour offers a meaningful and engaging way to connect with the enduring legacy of women’s military service.
