About this Event

INSPIRE Portsmouth: Integrating Support for Public Involvement in Research at Portsmouth.
Research seminar series.
Seminar 2: Public involvement case studies (ageing and dementia).

Join us for the second seminar in our series on engaging with people and communities in research.

Speakers:

Martha Pusey: I have worked in social care since the age of 15, starting my career as a tea girl in a small rest home at weekends despite my Dad telling me I needed to get a “proper job”, I have worked in the care sector ever since. I embarked on a professional doctorate in 2022 and, with the support of an amazing advisory group, created a Storytelling in Dementia resource manual titled My Story, My Future: There is always ME in the middle of Dementia.

Chris Maddocks B.E.M: I am a retired Police Officer. In 2016, at the age of 60, I was diagnosed with early-onset Vascular dementia, and since then have also been diagnosed with Parkinson's disease and Lewy Body dementia. I describe myself as a dementia activist and I have a passion for inclusion and fairness and strive to make the world a better place for people with dementia. Becoming actively involved with dementia research has given me a renewed sense of purpose.

Dr. Jenny Roddis: I am a researcher with a focus on day-to-day life with long-term conditions. With colleagues at Birmingham City University and University of Southampton, I am leading a programme of research around pressure ulcer prevention for older people in the community. I am also a Knowledge Mobilisation Fellow with ARC Wessex.

In this seminar we will showcase how public involvement has been carried out in our projects, how it has shaped the research, and the impacts it has had.

This seminar is open to all and can be joined either online or in-person (University Learning Centre, room 1.24). We encourage researchers at all career stages, public involvement leads, and members of the public to join us.

This seminar series is being carried out in collaboration with the INSPIRE Portsmouth for the MRC funding scheme. Further details are available here: https://sites.google.com/port.ac.uk/inspireportsmouth/home
