At its center is Heinrich Schütz’s Psalmen Davids (Psalms of David), a dazzling collection of sacred works for multiple choirs that helped shape the sound of the early German Baroque. Interspersed with the Schütz psalm settings, you’ll hear the same psalms brilliantly reimagined by Mendelssohn, Gallus, and Rossi, creating a rich tapestry of languages, sonorities, and expressive styles.Accompanied by period strings and winds from Jubilate Baroque Orchestra, a program of the San Francisco Early Music Society.
